Nanofiber Composites Containing BIAN N-heterocyclic Gold Carbene Complexes and Cytotoxicity in Human Cancer Cells

چکیده
A carbene is a divalent carbon atom linked to two other groups by covalent bonds, and possesses two unshared valence electrons. These electrons can be paired in the same orbital as anti-parallel spins (singlet) represented as σ2 or pπ2 in different orbitals, or as parallel spins (triplet) represented as σ1 pπ1. (Droge and Glorius, 2010). N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are singlet carbenes in which the E substituents are nitrogen atoms; these carbenes are neutral 2-electron donors, with an ability to bond to both hard and soft metals, making them versatile ligands (Weskamp et al., 1999; Herrmann, 2002). NHCs are easy to synthesize and functionalize since they form a stronger bond to metals and therefore form more stable metal complexes. The reactivity of a carbene is influenced by the nature of the substituents attached to the carbene carbon atom (Bourissou et al., 2000). The N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) metal complexes possess diverse biological activities and a few of them have been reported as potential chemotherapeutic agents (Hindi et al., 2009; Teyssot et al., 2009; Gautier and

Nanofiber composites containing N-heterocyclic carbene complexes with antimicrobial activity
This report concerns nanofiber composites that incorporate N-heterocyclic carbenes and the use of such composites for testing antimicrobial and antifungal activities. The nanofiber composites were produced by electrospinning mixtures of the gold chloride or gold acetate complexes of a bis(imino)acenaphthene (BIAN)-supported NHC with aqueous solutions of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). The products wer...

The AgCl, AgOAc, AuCl, and AuOAc complexes of the new bis(imino)acenaphthene(BIAN)-supported N-heterocyclic carbene ligand and the precursor imidazolium salt have been investigated with respect to their antimicrobial activities against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Psudomonas aeruginosa. The most active antimicrobial is the precursor imidazolium salt, which has ...
متن کاملGold(I) N-heterocyclic carbene complexes with an “activable” ester moiety: possible biological applications
While N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHC) are ubiquitous ligands in catalysts for organic or industrial synthesis, their potential to form transition metal complexes for medicinal applications has still to be exploited. Within this frame, new Au(I)-NHC compounds have been synthesized and structurally characterized via different methods. The solid state structure of one of these compounds was also est...
متن کاملBiological Screening of Newly Synthesized BIAN N-Heterocyclic Gold Carbene Complexes in Zebrafish Embryos
N-Heterocyclic carbene (NHC) metal complexes possess diverse biological activities but have yet to be extensively explored as potential chemotherapeutic agents. We have previously reported the synthesis of a new class of NHC metal complexes N-heterocyclic with acetate [IPr(BIAN)AuOAc] and chloride [IPr(BIAN)AuCl] ligands. In the experiments reported herein, the zebrafish embryos were exposed to...

We report on the synthesis, characterization, and stability studies of new titanocene complexes containing a methyl group and a carboxylate ligand (mba = -OC(O)-p-C6H4-S-) bound to gold(I)-N-heterocyclic carbene fragments through the thiolate group: [(η5-C5H5)2TiMe(μ-mba)Au(NHC)]. The cytotoxicities of the heterometallic compounds along with those of novel monometallic gold-N-heterocyclic carbe...
